As the new season of the English Premier League Football kicks off – so does the commentary from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Africa. Rajan Datar goes behind the scenes of the four language services which are bringing the commentary to avid fans across the continent. The guided tour is led by Aliyu Tanko – the commentator for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Hausa who gives the audience an inside scoop into the output from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Afrique, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Swahili, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Somali and his own station. Rajan and Aliyu also discuss how English commentary is adapted for the African audience and what it means to have a world famous sport broadcast in their nations’ languages.
