Andrew Harding revisits the Puntland region, on the Somali coast: it was once considered lawless and a stronghold for pirates, but now hopes to rejoin the rest of Somalia and is jailing both accused pirates and Al-Shabaab militants, even as it shelters refugees from fighting in other parts of the country and in Yemen. Alpa Shah is in Telengana and Chattisgarh states in central India, seeing how tribal people fleeing the long-running Maoist insurgency and oppressive state forces have rebuilt their villages and their lives in new pastures. Steve Evans, on the scene of the shrine bombing in Bangkok, reflects on what motivates people to take photos at the sites of disaster and violence.
