Hovertravel mark 50 years of crossing the Solent
Competition winners and regular passengers along with past and current staff members have taken a special flight to mark the 50th anniversary of the record breaking cross Solent hovercraft service.
An experimental hovercraft service between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight ran in 1962, but it was three years later that Hovertravel started their regular Ryde to mainland crossing.
50 years on and having carried tens of millions passengers, Hovertravel is the longest running passenger service in the world. And boasts the only regularly scheduled service in Europe.
