Dr Seuss 'set out to steal children’s minds'

A rediscovered Dr Seuss book - What Pet Shall I Get? – was released in the US on Tuesday.

β€œMy whole generation of writers was influenced by those books,” said Meg Rosoff, a US-born children’s author living in UK.

β€œHe really did set out to steal children’s minds, which is what I love about him,” added Ms Rosoff, who wrote the award winning How I Live Now.

β€œHe’s the original stalker!”

Cult reading for American children, works by Theodor Geisel, who died in 1991, include The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and have sold more than 650 million copies worldwide.

Dr Seuss died in 1991 but another book discovered only recently is published today in the United States.
