China’s dog-eating festival sparks online campaign

An online campaign to ban a Chinese dog-eating festival has been backed by more than 3.8 million people and attracted the support of celebrities such as Ricky Gervais.

Around ten thousand dogs will be slaughtered at the annual event in South West China, which marks the summer solstice.

Adam Parascandola, director of animal protection and crisis response at Humane Society International, Jill Robinson, founder and CEO of Animals Asia Foundation and Diane Way Lang, author and China commentator joined Victoria to discuss the treatment of dogs and the background to the festival.
