Provision of mental health services in England are often completely unacceptable for people suffering a psychiatric crisis, a report by the watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has warned.

A review of crisis care by the CQC found that many health professionals, particularly in accident and emergency, lacked compassion in how to care for and speak to people with mental health problems.

To discuss the report’s findings, Joanna Gosling was joined by Chloe Marsh, who has a personality disorder, Dr Paul Lelliot, author of the report for the CQC, Dr Adrian Boyle, Chair of the Quality in Emergency Care Committee, former care minister Norman Lamb and Councillor Jim Dixon, who is responsible for mental health at Lambeth Council.
