British electronic musician Matthew Herbert joins Tom for a fascinating and insightful chat. They explore the essence, inspiration and motivation behind the music he produces.

Matthew has been releasing music since 1996 under multiple guises; he uses different names to differentiate between different styles of music, approach and sometimes for anonymity. In 1998 he released 'Around The House', an album of beats, sounds generated by everyday kitchen objects, and vocals. Throughout his career he's experimented with sampled sounds, and this has been a key element of his music making process. He's a well-respected producer and has completed over 300 remixes.

His new album 'The Shakes' is released under the name Herbert, and is his first dance record for 9 years. He describes it as "electronic music for the soul".
