Order, order! Is PMQs fit for purpose?

Wednesday marked the first Prime Minister’s Questions of the new parliament – the weekly session where MPs can ask the Prime Minister questions on anything.

It is the most-reported session of the parliamentary week but is it still an important part of the democratic process or just a rowdy excuse for MPs to hurl insults at each other?

MPs Dame Margaret Beckett - who faced John Major across the despatch box - and Sarah Champion, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Assistant Political Editor Norman Smith and a panel of voters joined Joanna Gosling to debate the issue.
