NHS needs to "clamp down" on staffing agencies

The Chief Executive of NHS England, Simon Stevens, has said the health service needs to "clamp down on some of the staffing agencies ripping off the NHS". Asked on the The Andrew Marr show about reports that hospitals are paying agency nurses thousands of pounds to cover shifts, Mr Stevens said the NHS needs to take collective action and "will be doing that". He admitted that NHS hospitals were "over-spending" on temporary staffing and said they need to ensure that they are offering "flexible employment" to nursing staff.
