The election saw a huge swathe of new MPs from varied backgrounds. In Parliament there will be a record 191 women MPs, 42 won't be white and fewer will be privately educated.
The SNP won 56 seats in the election with the overwhelming majority new MPs. Andrew Wilson, pictured right, is a former SNP MSP and former advisor to Alex Salmond. he told Today:
βThis is a sophisticated governing party now in Scotland, youβd think to listen to some of the extreme coverage in the London media that it was the Taliban that were coming over the borderβ.
When asked if the SNP would raise the issue of independence again Wilson added: βI donβt think thereβs appetite in the country to go again (for a referendum).β
Mure Dickie, pictured centre, is Scotland correspondent for the Financial Times. He told Today:
'The (SNP) candidates that Iβve spoken to are very aware they canβt be seen as wreckers, their voters donβt want them to be going down to spoil things or to make independence look better'.
Dickie added: βBut thereβs clearly a lot of dissatisfaction with the way the UK worksβ¦ this is an opportunity for the establishment to take stock and see how we can make the UK work better and be more appealing.β
