Jessica Ennis-Hill: 'broken sleep is quite a challenge'
Nearly a year after her last race, Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill makes her comeback to competition today, when she takes part in the Manchester Great City Games.
Nine months ago she gave birth to a son Reggie, and Ennis-Hill has been telling Todayβs Alison Mitchell how that has changed her life:
βItβs a huge challenge and I think the most important thing is the support, emotional and physical, Iβve had from my family; spending as much time as they can with Reggie. That support is really, really vitalβ.
When asked what the biggest challenge is being a mum and professional athlete, Ennis-Hill added:
βI would definitely have to say the sleep deprivation. Being an athlete for so many years and when youβre training so hard physically your rest and your sleep is really important so having that broken sleep constantly has been quite a challengeβ.
