Conn’s Story
Conn says they didn’t have a street party but did have a party at The Railway Hotel. She went with her sister and baby.
Her husband was in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Guard and he went to another pub where they bought the piano out and celebrated.
With rationing, food was a sought after luxury. At the celebration there was spam and a lot of the ladies made jam so there were a lot of jam sandwiches.
News of victory was heard on the wireless. Her husband, Don, heard it at work. On that particular night he returned home from work and got in bed with his boots still on. He was drunk!
