As a child, Mike Rowe from Offham near West Malling remembers VE Day through a photo of a children's party that his parents organised.

Being active in their local community, and with a creative spirit, they created a large V-shaped table for the party guests.

You can see Mike with his father on the left hand side of the ‘V’ with his mother on the right-hand side.

Mike says the photo demonstrates how all the local ladies pulled out all the stops to provide a marvellous tea at a time of real shortages.

As well as the food, there were party hats all round despite paper being in short supply.

Mike says the photo captures an episode of his childhood perfectly and represents the way his parents cared for him and helped in the community.
