Samuel King’s Story

Samuel was born in Priestsmans River, Jamaica in 1926. In 1944, he joined the RAF and set sail from Jamaica on board SS Cuba bound for Britain.

Life was completely different to what he left behind and instead of being a farmer, like the generations before him, he became an engineer for the RAF; repairing their aircraft at many depots before settling at RAF Locking in Weston-super-Mare.

In this interview with the Imperial War Museums; Samuel describes VE Day in Weston-super-Mare and the celebrations on the sea front.
