Diary reveals "hopeless optimism" of Gallipoli soldiers

Memorial events are being held in Turkey to remember the Gallipoli campaign 100 years after it began.

Gallipoli was the scene of one of the worst allied defeats of World War One, with tens of thousands dying on both sides.

One of those was Harry Biles, an assistant paymaster in the Royal Naval Division's 2nd Brigade.

His grandson, Peter Biles, who's also a former Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent, spoke to Victoria Derbyshire about the "hopeless optimism" of some troops as revealed in his grandfather's diary and letters.
