As part of the programme's coverage of 100 constituencies in 100 days, John Humphrys is in Birmingham Northfield in search of the archetypal voter politicians appeal to.

At a carwash in Northfield voters said they couldn't identify the so called typical voter.

"One of the problems these days is we were always used to the two party system, but now it's a mess really, you're voting for a particular party that's not going to get a majority so where does that leave us," one man told John.

Frank, pictured above, owns the Clock Cafe in Northfield which was recently visited by Ed Balls.

"You don't see them for 11 months of the year and all of a sudden when the election is on you see everybody want to come and shake your hand," he said.

Ben Page from Ipsos Mori suggested the reason a Worcester Woman or Mondeo Man haven't been identified is because this year's election is more complex with more marginal seats.

Page identified Conservatory Man and Woman as a possible archetypal voter.

"They're people living in a semi somewhere in middle England and they really want to get a conservatory," he said.
