The Reynoldsons were among a group of lead miners who moved to east Lancashire from places like Gunnerside in the Yorkshire Dales when the mines there were closing.

Many were devout Methodists and worshipped at the chapel on Brooklands Road in Burnley.

John Reynoldson joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in 1916. He was killed, just months later, on 23 April 1917 – the day after his 21st birthday. Private Reynoldson has no known grave and is remembered on the Arras Memorial to the missing. His father James wrote a hymn called "Gunnerside" and dedicated it to the memory of his son.

The music was sold to raise money for the National Children's Â鶹ԼÅÄ and Orphanage.

The hymn lives on today. It's still played by the Muker Silver Band in Yorkshire with some of the band members still coming from Gunnerside.
