Newpapers: Can what they say sway your vote?

Natalie Fenton, the founder of Media Reform Coalition, and Bob Satchwell, director of the Society of Editors, debated the influence of partisan newspapers on the success of this election.

The Media Reform Coalition argued that there is an unacceptable imbalance in our British press; too few individual owners and too much Conservative bias.

Natalie Fenton said "maybe the reason Ed Miliband is getting such a tough ride in this election is partly because he said he will stand up to the major news corporations".

She wants a new media plurality law and commitment from the big newspapers to convince its readers that it will invest in unbiased journalism.

Bob Satchwell said "I just don't like to see laws which are affecting newspapers. We're supposed to have a free press."
