Professor Rachel Wood a carbonate geo-scientist from Edinburgh University speaks to Science in Action presenter Jack Stewart about the mass extinction of 252 million years ago. Rachel and her team have been analysing boron protons from limestone rocks found beneath the seabed during this era. Their results suggest that an increase in ocean acidification was one of the factors leading to the mass extinction event that wiped out about 90% of life on earth and led to our current eco-system.
