Paisley and Renfrewshire: Voting For Serious Change
As part of our coverage of 100 seats in the 100 days before the election, Jim Naughtie visited Paisley and Renfrewshire North and South, which have a Labour majority of 15,000 and 16,000 respectively.
On a nearby University campus, which straddles both constituencies, Lauren Gilmore said βafter the referendum, I had something of an identity crisisβ¦ but there seems to be a clearer long term picture from Labourβ.
In a community centre in Ferguslie Park, a housing estate west of Glasgow, he met Billy Clark who runs the centre, who said locals would be voting for change: βThey want to bring about the things that they had in the past, first of all employmentβ.
Ahead of the election the Labour message has been βif you don't want a Conservative government you've got to vote Labourβ, whereas the SNPβs message is βthe more nationalists there are at Westminster, the more they'll take you seriouslyβ.
