FedEx to Buy Rival TNT Express

US parcels delivery firm to buy Dutch TNT Express for $4.8bn in bid to expand in Europe. Plus, Radio France is hit by its longest strike in a decade.

US parcels delivery firm FedEx is to buy its Dutch rival TNT Express for nearly $5bn as it looks to expand its European operations. In a joint statement, the companies said both management boards had reached a 'conditional agreement'.

Programmes have been disrupted on Radio France, the French equivalent of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio. The station has been hit by its longest strike in a decade. Journalists and technicians have walked out over spending cuts as the broadcaster tries to plug a $23m hole in its budget.

In Britain, listeners to the classical music radio station Classic FM have voted 12 pieces of music from video game soundtracks into their list of top 300 tunes. We talk to James Hannigan, a composer who has written music for video games such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, and ask if it is really possible to compare this kind of music with the old classics.

Plus, we hear from Lebanon, where the country's capital Beirut is experiencing an unexpected property boom. The city, once torn apart by war, is now set to become the world's next big real estate hotspot. This is despite the conflict raging next door in Syria. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Anna Holligan went to find out how and why Beirut's housing sector is enjoying success against the odds.
