As part of the series covering 100 seats in 100 days Mishal Husain has been to Swindon to meet people looking for long term work and one company which has weathered the storm of the recession.

Mark works for a major retailer where, despite having shifts on a rota system, the company might cancel his day's work at short notice, as seen in the image above.

"I have had cases when I've gone to work and they've asked me why have you turned up today, we sent you a message, you have to go home, no pay," he said.

At a company manufacturing cardboard packaging, chief executive David Peddley, says the packaging industry is a "good bell weather" for manufacturing output.

"During the start of the downturn...over a period of about 12 weeks we saw a 20% reduction in our volume...it feels really good now", he said.
