Margaret Oliver former Greater Manchester Police officer and chief constable Sir Peter Fahy debated a report into the police handling of child sex abuse cases in Rochdale.

The report from Greater Manchester Police says none of the officers who were part of the investigation will face further misconduct proceedings. It does admit significant failings between 2008 and 2010. Nine men were jailed in 2012 for offences involving girls as young as 13.

Margaret Oliver who was a detective constable for Greater Manchester Police until she resigned over its treatment of victims, believes the report is a missed opportunity to fully explore what went wrong in Rochdale.

"There is still an overwhelming desire to conceal the truth," she said.

Chief constable Sir Peter Fahy said β€œa comprehensive overhaul of the way the court system deals with these sorts of cases” is needed.

β€œHow do you protect vulnerable young people who are determined, unfortunately to put themselves at risk, they don’t understand the degree to which they are making themselves vulnerable," he said.
