鈥淲omen, an authority explained, are particularly adapted for work which comes outside the scope of the ordinary detective. But unfortunately it is sometimes unsafe to trust a woman with an important investigation鈥�. This is the extraordinary article taken from a Bristol newspaper in February 1916.

It states that 鈥溾��the Bristol authorities have taken a step in criminal investigation which no other police force in the Kingdom has taken.鈥�

Bristol was chosen as one of many sites around the country to train women for the police service, and the vast majority of those women were involved in supervising women workers at munitions factories.
