Police investigating historical allegations about a paedophile ring involving establishment figures have searched the home of the former conservative MP, Harvey Proctor.

The Met Police say it is part of Operation Midland, that is examining claims boys were abused by a group of powerful men from politics, the military and law enforcement agencies at locations across southern England and in London in the 1970s and 1980s.

Mr Proctor said he has "never attended sex parties鈥� and hasn't been part of any 'rent boy ring':

鈥淚 have not been part of any rent boy ring with cabinet ministers, other members of parliament, or generals or the military; I have conducted my private life in a discreet manner."

鈥淚 am sure that some of the allegations are true, but I am sure that a lot of the allegations are pure and utter fantasy," he added.

Mr Proctor, who lives near Grantham in Lincolnshire, was fined in May 1987 for gross indecency. Commenting on those offences, Mr Proctor said:

"Of course there were offences committed but I didn鈥檛 know at the time that I was committing these offences because the people concerned, who were actually under 21, said to me they were over 21."

The police have said publicly that they believe the allegations to be 'credible.'
