Beckett on UK national security

A committee of MPs and peers tasked with scrutinising the blueprint for UK security says the next strategy will be have to be prepared in an "unnecessary rush", arguing not enough groundwork has been done to prepare for it.

Margaret Beckett who chairs the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy said it was calling for a "cross-party consensus", and that the national interest "need not necessarily be a matter of party political difference."

The former foreign secretary spoke to Jo Coburn about the UK’s relations with, and potential threats from, Russia, in a debate with commentators Tim Montgomerie and Steve Richards.
