CAGE on Emwazi tape complaining about M15 treatment

A recording has emerged in which the Islamic State fighter Mohammed Emwazi denied being an extremist and complained about UK security services.

In the tape, Emwazi - known as "Jihadi John" - said MI5 had threatened him and tried to "put words into my mouth".

The recording was made by Asim Qureshi, research director at CAGE which describes itself an independent advocacy organisation for those impacted by the war on terror.

Mr Qureshi reacted to a the conversation which took place in 2009. Mishal Hussain asked him if he thought the conversation could lead to radicalisation.

β€œIt’s not about just a conversation, it’s about the way that those conversations take place, its about the way young men are accused of all sorts of crimes, they’re put into very difficult situations, often they are not told what their rights on in those situation, and M15 often use tactics where they put people into a corner," said Mr Qureshi.
