US-Bangladeshi blogger Avijit Roy has been hacked to death as he walked back from a book fair with his wife.
Mr Roy is the second Bangladeshi blogger to be murdered in two years and the fourth writer attacked in a decade.
So what’s going on in Bangladesh? Why have atheists become such targets? Has a climate of growing religious conservatism and intolerance put all free thinkers are at risk? And if so, what should the government be doing to crack down on Islamist extremists?
