Rana Mitter talks to Elie Wiesel, Auschwitz survivor
Rana Mitter talks to Elie Wiesel, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 and author of Night, a memoir that described his experiences during the Holocaust. His book is a vivid and terrifiying account of his imprisonment as a teenager in Auschwitz and then in Buchenwald, and the increasing horrors he endured, including the death of his parents and his sister. To coincide with the re-publication of Night, Wiesel talks about why his story had to be written down and how he feels about the criticism sometimes levelled at him because of his undivided support for Israel. Originally broadcast on 30 September 2008.
