Greece tax corruption: Business owners describe crippling blackmail

The election in Greece at the weekend is seen as a battle between left and right but it's just as much a battle between old and new.

The favourites to win are a party of the far left, Syriza, which has recently gained popularity for its promise to end austerity and renegotiate the deal agreed with the so-called Troika to pay back the massive loan that rescued the country from bankruptcy.

Owners of a car dealership in Greece, Vangelis and Mika, told John Humphrys corruption from tax officials has crippled their business: 'Success makes you a target of the tax system'.

'If you grow your business suddenly you become a target from the tax authorities, because our system is so huge, about 40 000 pages'.

On giving in to blackmail: 'Many people in Greece have done it, we are not the exception They used to ask for thousands...but now I will say "OK close the company" it may be a solution for us'.
