Mother of murdered teen Breck Bednar: Police did not do their job in this case

The mother of murdered schoolboy Breck Bednar has spoken of her fury after it emerged his killer, Lewis Daynes, was on two national crime databases but the police did not act.

Breck's mother Lorin LaFave, told Today: "I could see that Daynes was completely controlling and grooming him so I called the police ...and spent 30 minutes speaking about my concerns".

"I told them Daynes' name and alias used and the fact that he would never show his picture".

Kevin Hurley, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, told Today he could not comment on the case as it was subject to an independent investigation, but that "cutbacks" and the "quality of staff" meant the police could not always be certain that things would be answered.

Ms LaFave responded saying it was "clear some people did not do their job in this case".
