Coverage of Paris and Boko Haram attacks
World Service audiences ask: Why did the attack on Charlie Hebdo journalists in Paris receive disproportionate coverage to a massacre at the hands of Boko Haram in Nigeria?
As the aftermath and implications of the shootings in Paris continue to receive analysis across Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ news, audiences for the World Service say there’s been a disproportionate focus on the Paris attack compared to a massacre in Baga in north east Nigeria by Boko Haram. The exact death toll in Nigeria is still not clear but reported figures range from 150 to 2,000 and getting information from the area is extremely difficult for journalists.
The Head of News for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service, Andrew Whitehead, joins Rajan Datar in the studio to answer questions from the audience and discuss the issue with a listener calling from South Africa who thinks the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ needs to question how it makes its news judgements.
