Moelfre and Dyffryn

Derek Brockway undertakes walks around Wales. Here, he completes two accessible rambles at either end of the country - in Moelfre and around Dyffryn Gardens.

Derek Brockway walks around Wales, starting with two easily accessible rambles at either end of the country.

He begins his first walk at the seaside village of Moelfre on Anglesey, accompanied by writer and TV producer Bedwyr Rees. Following the coastal path, Derek looks at sites of dramatic shipwrecks and hears about the rescues by heroic local lifeboatmen.

Going inland, Derek discovers the remains of the island's ancient and bloody past. The second walk picks up this historical theme in the countryside around Dyffryn Gardens in the Vale of Glamorgan. Derek's guide is Will Renwick, who at 22 became the youngest person to walk the whole perimeter of Wales. The walk is gentler but takes in extraordinary burial chambers, a pretty church and some dazzling dahlias at the recently restored Dyffryn Gardens.
