A body has been found in the Republic of Ireland by a team searching for the remains of Brendan Megraw, who went missing in 1978 when he was 23.

Mr Megraw was one of 16 murder victims who became known as 'The Disappeared'. They were people believed to have been abducted, killed and buried in secret by the IRA during the Troubles.

The finding follows fresh information passed to the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains by someone they described as a long-standing Republican contact. A condition of the Independent Commission is that such information becomes inadmissible in court.

Kieran Megraw, the brother of Brendan, spoke to Phil Williams, having visited the site where the remains were found in County Meath. He described how he felt both joy and sadness at the discovery.
