Scotland, Leurbost, Isle of Lewis: Donald and his Lizard
HS2 - Leurbost, Isle of Lewis
During the First World War, Seaforth Highlander, Donald Macleod, from Lewis, saw action in France, Mesopotamia, and Palestine, took part in 27 battles and didn’t get home on leave once.
His niece recorded his experiences of the war on cassette, including how he kept a lizard to keep lice and flies from his clothes - and preserved the reptile in glass to bring it home.
