Veterans, Private Percy Lewis of the 6th Beach Group, 1st Buckinghamshire Battalion; Signalman George Lynes of the Royal Corps of Signals; Sapper Frederick Hawkins of 72 Field Company, the Corps of Royal Engineers; Bombardier Bill Price of 76th Anti-Aircraft Brigade, and Royal Navy Signalman Harry Greenwood, spoke to Peter Allen at Arromanches beach in Normandy, where they were marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

"It makes me laugh because when the ramp went down they said 'get up the beach', we rushed up this beach, now I can hardly walk without a stick,鈥� said Pte Lewis.

Seventy years ago 160,000 allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, reopening the western front of the fight against Nazi Germany. Seven decades on, many of the survivors returned to pay tribute to the thousands of their comrades who died that day, and to share their memories and reflections with each-other.
