Dylan Thomas reads The Hand That Signed the Paper

This is the earliest recording of Dylan Thomas reading a poem still in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ archives. It was recorded on the 18th October 1938 in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Manchester for a programme titled 'The Modern Muse' which featured other more established poets of the time including Auden, Spender and C. Day Lewis. He was aged 23 at the time. This was his second appearance on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ β€“ an earlier reading from April 1937 has been lost. The poem was first published in the collection ’25 Poems’ in 1936.
