Dylan Thomas reads In the White Giant’s Thigh
The first draft of this poem was written following the birth of Dylan and Caitlin Thomas’ third child, Colm in 1949, though he corrected it often from then until its first public reading on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Third Programme on September 25th 1950. It was finally published in 1952 in the collection ‘Country Sleep’. It allegedly alludes to the Cerne Abbas Giant – a huge chalk figure in the Dorset hills with an uncertain history. The poem was intended to be part of an unfinished trilogy called ‘In Country Heaven’. Read by Dylan Thomas.
