Dylan Thomas reads an extract from The Outing
In his short life Dylan Thomas only appeared in 2 TV programmes. His first programme on life in Swansea from April 1953 has been lost. Later in the year, in August, some 3 months before his death, he was invited to read his story ‘The Outing’ for a TV series called ‘Speaking Personally’ (where various personalities were filmed speaking on a subject of their choosing). Recording of ‘The Outing’ took place in the Dean’s Library in St Asaph. Only the sound track remains. The extract here includes his introduction (with the line -‘if you can call it a story…’) and a section on the planning of the outing in his uncle’s kitchen which shows Dylan Thomas the storyteller and actor at his best.
