Brazil and Niger

Justin Rowlatt sees how Brazil is reclaiming Awa tribal land in the rainforest - and ejecting settlers who had moved in. Thomas Fessy is in a very special ski shop, in the Sahara.

From a tribal renaissance in the Amazon rainforest to a ski shop in the Sahara - two unexpected tales from remote places. Justin Rowlatt sees how Brazil is mobilising armed forces and state agencies to protect the territory of the indigenous Awa group in the rainforest - and evicting the loggers and settlers who had moved in. Could this be the start of a bounce back for their culture?

In Niger, the story is less heartening, though no less unusual. Thomas Fessy visits a very special ski shop - in the Sahara - and meets its owner, who thinks violence from jihadi groups in the region might have ended his career of sliding around in the sands.
