Maryam Hashemi - introduction
Maryam Hashemi works in pencil and watercolour or acrylic paint. She lives on a barge and is filmed at the canal and in her barge. She describes there is an element of magic which helps to bring the conscious and the subconscious together in her paintings. Beautiful images of her work are displayed as she explains her life story; born in UK and raised in Iran, she still sees the traces of her experience as a child in her work, which influenced her, especially the Islamic ladies who appear everywhere in her paintings, looking very curious. Maryam’s sense of humour is important to her and an aspect of her work. She insists that people should do what they enjoy working on and that’s what really matters.
