Dylan Thomas reads If My Head Hurt a Hair’s Foot

Published in 1939 in ‘Map of Love’, this poem is often assumed to be a ‘celebration’ of the birth of Dylan Thomas’ eldest son, Llewelyn, although in his own introduction to the poem, reproduced here, he talks of an ‘unreconciled acceptance of suffering’. Fellow poet Robert Graves once offered a reward of a pound to anyone who could understand the poem. Read by Dylan Thomas on a recording from 1945.
