The home front and rationing
How Germany’s attempt to sink the merchant shipping to Britain, which brought the food and supplies on which the country lived, resulted in the creation of the home front and the introduction of rationing. There is presenter narrative, modern report and contemporary footage. The focus is on the key trigger for, and development of the home front. The context and motives for the creation of the home front idea is investigated. The devastation to food supplies from U-boat submarines is highlighted. The key concept is the expansion of allotments and introduction of food rationing.
