"Record labels said there's no way this will be played on radio"

Some of the biggest stars in pop music gathered in London this week for the Brit Awards. It's traditionally a ceremony that's seen black British artists fair well, with the likes Emeli Sande, Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal winning in recent years. But this year, the Birmingham-born soul singer Laura Mvula failed to win either the British Breakthrough Act or Female Solo Artist awards she was nominated for. In this extract, Laura's manager, Kwame Kwaten, speaks to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Mark Dean about the challenges facing black British artists.
