Howard Davis Park, Jersey: Memorial to a Fallen Son

Rich island benefactor TB Davis gave Howard Davis Park to the island as a lasting memorial to his son Howard Davis who died from wounds he received on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Davis knocked down a large mansion, leaving just the billiard room which is now a memorial hall dedicated to the memory of his son. Howard’s medals, photographs and paintings of him and the family are on display.

The Park is visited by thousands of people every year and used every day by people who live nearby.

It also has the only Commonwealth War Cemetery permitted to have wooden crosses instead of white headstones.
