South African politics - opposition merger collapses
A deal merging South Africa's main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, with a smaller party in order to challenge the governing ANC has collapsed. The deal would have seen the leader of the smaller Agang party, Dr Mamphela Ramphele, put forward as the group's candidate for this year's presidential election. But the tie-up has collapsed in acrimony β the DAβs leader, Helen Zille said of Dr Ramphele - a friend - that she βcannot be trustedβ. So whatβs happened? James Menendez spoke to Dr Ramphele.
