Winston Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech in 1946

Churchill announced the allied victory in his VE Day speech but was then defeated in the 1945 election two months later. In the Spring of 1946, Churchill went on holiday to America where he made the speech in which he referred to the β€˜Iron Curtain’. The speech was seen by many as the beginning of the Cold War as well as asserting the need for a β€œspecial” relationship between America and the UK.
