The Perfect Heist? Amsterdam, 2002

Two men steal two paintings from the city’s Van Gogh Museum. Although they are quickly apprehended, and subsequently sentenced to four and four and half years in jail respectively, the paintings have never been recovered. Alastair explores an extraordinary theory: the a loophole in Dutch law might allow the two thieves to claim legal ownership of the paintings they stole if they can hang onto them for thirty years after the theft.
