Jamaica and Russia
Nick Davis reflects on homophobia in the Caribbean - and what might eventually change attitudes; Daniel Sandford goes walrus-chasing with an expert in the far reaches of Chukotka
Pascale Harter introduces personal stories, reflections and experiences from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondents around the world. In this edition, stories from two wildly different environments. Nick Davis reflects on homophobia in the Caribbean - where the moral climate is often highly hostile to gay rights or even gay people themselves. What might eventually change attitudes, in a part of the world saturated with Bible-bashing churches and hardline religiosity? At far more northerly latitudes, Daniel Sandford goes walrus-chasing in the frozen reaches of Chukotka, in the Russian Arctic. Anatoly Kochnev's a world-renowned naturalist, and so acclimatised to the local conditions he proudly exists on a diet of nothing but "meat and fat" while out doing fieldword. Truly a locavore!
