Development of photography by Daguerre and Fox Talbot

Michael Mosley, Cassie Newland and Mark Miodownik from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ series 'The Genius of Invention' describe the scientific achievements of Louis Deguerre and William Henry Fox Talbot.

In 1826 Nicephore Niepce took the first photograph. In 1839 Louis Deguerre agreed to work with Niepce, but Niepce died shortly before they could begin. At the same time William Henry Fox Talbot was developing photography using paper instead of metal plates. The differences between Deguerre and Fox Talbot and their work are described.
